George's obituary

George Wesley Bishop, son of the late Oscar J and Sarah (Bond)Bishop was horn April 9, 1940 in Harford County, Maryland. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 03,1995.

George received his early education in the Harford County School System and graduated from the Havre de Grace Consolidated High School in 1959. He received his early christ ian training in the 'Home' and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He joined St. James A.M.E. Church where his membership continued until his demise. George often reminisced about traveling with a singing group called 'The Silvertones', when he and brothcrs and cousins were very young. He enjoyed being a part of the Sensational Silvertones.

In 1964, George joined in Holy Matrimony with Ann Lee Lewis and from this union three children were born; Reggie, (late) Rcesie and Rissa Bishop. Ile joined the: United States Army in 1960 during the Korean Conflict, and was honorable discharged in 1963. George was employed for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company as a street mechanic and retired in 1992 after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Leroy Giles Bowling League for twenty years. He also served a a coach in the Harford County Parks and Recreation for twenty years where he taught countless number of young boys the importance of 'Teamwork' in baseball, football, basketball and life in general. Ile always enjoyed helping people, especially children. On September 18, 1993, he was honored by the St. James A.M.E. Church family for his dedicated services. He was extremely active in the church renovation. George loved to sing. He was the first president of the St. James A.M.E. Gospel Choir which was organized in 1983. He was also a member of the St. James Male Chorus, The Senior Choir, The Mass Choir, and the Harford, Cecil & York County Male Chorus. He was a member o the Gravel Hill Performance Club.

He leaves to cherish his memory; a devoted wife, Anne Bishop, sons Curtis Hill, Sr and Reginald Bishop, a daughter Nerissa Bishop and granddaughter, Tyrissa, grandsons; CJ, Brandon, Derek, Shaun Hill, 6 sisters; Celesta Jamison and Arcina Benn, Chester, PA, Dorothy Hall, Baltimore, MD, Alberta Purnell, Cambridge, MD, Grace Bond, Jarrettsville, Md, and Geraldine Hague, Havre de Grace, MD (Gravel Hill); 4 brothers, Eugene Bishop, Churchville. MD Arnold Bishop, Edgewood, MD, Albert Bishop, Los Angelas, CA and Ronald Bishop, Havre de Grace, MD; 8 Sister-in-laws Sarah Bishop, Grace Bishop, Arthurine Bishop, Frances Fax, Alma Cromwell, Shirley James Octavia Giles and

Beatrice Lewis; 8 Brother-in-laws; Herman Hague, Sr., Herbert Bond, Albert Lewis, Jr., Darlington Lewis, William Cromwell, Berkley Fax, Roger Giles and Benny James; and a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
