Xander was the closest thing to a nephew or son I have ever had.  I love his bright light and high vibes.  How he woke up every day and washed the dishes while he made coffee and breakfast.  How he took his shower and picked out a flawlessly clean and stylish outfit, and hit the door with a backpack and sunglasses, swinging his hair.  And he would turn to me and say, “Have a good day, Auntie Sheila!  I’m headed to the park for a hike, then going to coffee with friends.  They’ll give me a ride to work.  Can you pick me up tonight when I get off?”  I loved sitting under the large pecan tree in our front yard, drinking coffee and talking about Cryptozoology on our days off.  Xander was always curious, and never feared asking what a vocabulary word meant, or about a concept.  He’d cock his head to one side and say, “Oh, NOW I know what you mean.  I’ve seen that word in a book and I didn’t know what it meant.”  I, in turn, asked him Millenial questions and ones about music, which we shared often.  One time he told me he met this “guy who was totally woke.”  We were driving.  I looked at him at a stoplight and said, “Xan, what does “woke” mean?  He didn’t laugh at me.  He told me in all seriousness.  One of my favorite things about Xan is that he was NOT lazy!  When he came from Florida to live with Jenna and I off Cesar Chavez, he woke up after his first night and said, “Well, I’m gonna get a job today.”  We pointed out which direction 7th Street was and told him what was there.  He showered and dressed, took off with his backpack and by 4:00 that day, had 5 job offers!  He started the next day at a funky-cool ice cream shop.  He would work anywhere and he could learn anything.  He was a true PolyMath like both his parents. Whatever he put his mind to, he succeeded at.  He was a “Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker.”  We used to shake our heads smiling because he had the Luck O’ the Irish.  My brother and I always said he could fall into a bucket  of sh** and come out smelling like a rose.  He taught me something REALLY important.  Something I had never mastered.   Xander talked to me over and over about the importance of discipline.  The last time we had that conversation, he and Jenna took me to Walmart.  We all bought a new workout outfit and swimsuit.  Then we went to the YMCA and set up our memberships and worked out.  He pronounced his title for me like this:  “ON-tee SheiLAAA.”  Whenever he said that, I was at attention, because what would come after was 20 questions in a row.  Which I would answer in rapid succession.  Or 20 statements in a row spoken as a run-on sentence with the word “like” as every fourth word.  I love you, Xannie.  You will always be my Golden Angel Boy.
