Gem's obituary
To know me is to know my Kitty. Rescued at just six weeks old in my hometown when I was sixteen, a rebellious act turned into the greatest love story I have ever known. Through high school, the loss of my mom, moving away from home for the first time, university, heartache, working in Vancouver, moving to London for law school, the big move to New York, the pandemic, and then being reunited full time in New York this summer - Kitty has been the most constant presence in my life. She lived beyond her nine lives, having moved ten times and resided in two countries. Kitty grew up on a farm, flew on airplanes, saw the Empire State Building, tasted caviar, and ultimately, lived life to the fullest. Remarkably, she even survived a three-story fall from our apartment window in 2021. My perpetual baby, confident, stoic source of support, napping buddy, and little shadow, it is hard to understand what life will be like without her.
She particularly adored basking in the sunshine and catching sunrises whenever she could. Just this past weekend I woke up early to find her perched on the couch, looking out to the sunrise, so calm and at peace. Little did we know, that sunrise would be her last.
Today we are reflecting on the lessons and wisdom she has shared with us: always make time for rest, value and take note of the little things in life, lay firm boundaries, time is precious, live life with integrity, and most importantly - love fiercely.
