Gayle's obituary
The former Gayle E. Borden was born on June 4, 1943 to Louise Lindinger Borden and Gerald A. Borden of Flushing NY.
A graduate of Baldwin High School in 1961, she worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in NYC. She soon-after met, fell in love with and married George F Shaffer on 12/29/1962. She and her husband resided in Aschafensburg, Germany while George was stationed in the US Army. They returned to Baldwin, NY to begin a family in 1963. She has lived in Mahopac, NY and LaGrangeville, NY until retiring to Valatie, NY. Gayle owned and operated a home-based ceramics studio where she loved to teach her craft and won many awards for her artwork. Gayle was also involved in home crafting and organized different local events throughout many years.
Gayle and George loved to travel, especially by cruise ship. They had many fun trips around the world including Bermuda, the Panama Canal, Bahamas, Montreal, and Gayle had the opportunity to travel to Ireland as well.
Her main focus and joy in life was raising her three daughters and taking care of her growing family. Gayle enjoyed social activities with many friends as well. She was a member of her local senior organization and enjoyed it’s activities. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant, NY. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Gayle is survived by her husband, George; sister, Louise Cardoza of Broad Channel, NY; three daughters: Christine Futyma of Poughkeepsie NY, Cynthia Mulvaney of Rio Rancho NM, Courtney Wood of Valatie, NY as well as seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
