Gary and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Livonia. We used to hang out together and played soccer for Stevenson H.S. I remember seeing him at a H.S. reunion some years ago and reminiscing about the old days. He was a good friend and wonderful man to know. Condolences to his family, he was a really, really good guy.
Though I hadn’t  had contact with Gary for nearly 49 years, a flood of cherished memories came pouring into my heart upon being informed of his passing. Gary and I graduated together from Stevenson High School (Livonia, MI) and were starters on the school’s State championship soccer team, in our senior year. We were good friends and spent a good amount of time together in extracurricular activities, including an auto accident in his parents’ Ford Maverick.   We both pursued an education in engineering; he at MSU, myself at Michigan Tech, which is why we lost each other’s company. My heart holds close and is warm with the memory of our friendship.  Viewing the photos and comments attached to this site, I recognize the young man and his attributes that drew me into his friendship.  Much peace and love to Gary’s family and friends.  I have some knowledge  of your loss.

Wonderful, unforgettable memories when we were neighbors
It has been a very long time. Going back to our younger years I remember growing up just around the corner from the Wilkinson Family and remember the Soapbox Derby Car Gary built. May you rest in peace. You and your family have our condolences, thoughts and prayers. Debbie and Kevin Love (M-72, Harrisville, MI 48740).
Gary and I owned the sailboat Iphigenia together with many years sailing together with good times and good conversations that included plucking our kids out of Lake Michigan while they were swimming one weekend. Erica reminded me of that last week when she called me about her Father.

Dear Marilyn and Rollo,

My deepest and most sincere condolences to you and your beautiful family.   I remember looking up at Larry’s funeral, and seeing Gary and all of your beautiful faces, and that gave me great comfort.  My heart breaks for all of you…wishing you a sense of peace, in knowing you are surrounded by much heartfelt love.  Holding you up in prayer…

 Love,  Sally Quick

I was so saddened to learn of Gary’s passing. To the family, please accept my sincere condolences.

Over the past 30 years, I had the pleasure of working with Gary on several engineering/construction projects. His skill as an engineer was exceptional but … his humanity … his generosity … and, his kindness were legendary. It has been said, “You can't become legendary if you lack energy." Gary had boundless energy for his work, his volunteer activities (ie: Meals on Wheels) and, most of all, his family.

You will be missed my friend,

Pedro.

Gary was a blessing to our family.  We loved him and being around him. His kindness, generosity, willingness and appreciation for family was always so evident. We had such a special time in AZ with Sharon and Gary this past year. He was always ready for the next adventure. He opened his heart and home to us and we will always be grateful and treasure those special times.  My sister loved Gary, and he loved her. Their love was a deep, mutual caring love that was always there. For anyone who knew Gary, this loss is heartbreaking.  We will keep his family and loved ones close to our hearts and in our prayers.   Sincerely with love.  Dan and Connie Kerner
Erica , Andy and families…we are so sorry to hear about your Dad.  It sounds like he enjoyed his personal and work lives…that is wonderful.  I hope you both and families are doing well.  Hugs,    Sue & John Detrick. Homewood, Il
