As I have thought about what I could share with others about my experiences with Gary, a distinct memory keeps coming to mind where he taught me about the role of love in Priesthood leadership.

As a youth growing up my family lived for a time in Champaign, IL and Gary was our Bishop. At the time I was 14 years old and was serving as Teachers Quorum President. I was in an interview with him and I was giving a rundown on each Quorum member and what I was trying to do to help each member. There was one particular Quorum member I was especially concerned for and I asked Gary what he would do in my shoes. His answer was “just keep on loving him”. In closing, we read a Book of Mormon scripture together, “and charity suffereth long and is kind...” (Moroni 7:45).
I felt Gary’s and my Father in Heaven’s love for me and my Quorum members throughout that interview.
“Bishop Reynolds, thank you for your profound influence upon me as a youth leader! I have not forgotten the role that love plays in leadership!

As I’ve tried to think of a memory to share, I just seem to have a montage of a bunch of random moments go through my mind.
In these montage moments I recall Uncle Gary cheering me on whenever I’d jump in to play whatever game was being played with cousins....I remember one-on-one conversation with Uncle Gary asking me about my life...and I remember observing Uncle Gary being with his family - both the one he created with Aunt Kris and the one he was born into and he always seemed so happy to be with whomever it was he was with. And I remember a truck ride with just Uncle Gary from one of my trips home to Washington. In all these memories he was supportive and just genuinely good and kind and caring and I always felt that when I was around him. I will miss him, not just because he was a fun and kind uncle to me but also because I know what he means to so many others that I love and care about.
Until we meet again, thanks for cheering me on Uncle Gary. I always heard you and I appreciated it.
I was terribly saddened to learn of Gary's passing and have all of the Reynolds family in my heart and prayers. He along with Kris created a deeply rooted family that continues to grow into beautiful branches of the Reynolds Tree.

Gary taught me many things in the years I worked for him at Farm Management, that have been helpful in many settings over time. I will share a couple that I reflect and keep in mind regularly.

1. Co-ownership is no ownership. He taught me that you have to clearly define who is responsible for what details, if you want to have success. I see this on a very regular basis as being SO true! Its one of my favorite things to say and explain when I see things failing.

2. A good leader defines the expectation for final outcome but allows everyone to decide how they will get there. In other words allow for individual creativity and don't micromanage.

Although these seem like very business type concepts, I have also seen these ring true with family and other responsibilities even over the many years it has been since I last saw Gary. May Kris and all of the family feel peace in His plan at this sad time.

Kris and all the family. I'm so sorry about the passing of Gary. He was such a great bishop. He helped our family during a very difficult time and showed the love and kindness Christ would show. We will forever be grateful to him and love him. We love your family and pray for comfort and blessings for you all. I wanted to share a picture I have of him with Gretchen on her baptism day but I haven't found it yet. When I find it I'll share it. God bless you all. Love, Mary Reger and family
Gary was such a kind, down to earth man. We have so many fond memories of soccer from Champaign Park District to Centennial High school soccer and Little Illini Soccer! He was a friend to everyone who met him. He truly loved his wife and family and it was very obvious❤️ May all your memories sustain you all until we are all reunited in our heavenly home❤️. God’s peace🙏 Dee Eaton and family

Gary, like my own Dad, will forever be linked with Sourdough Waffles in my heart. He is is the first person I have met that loves those waffles as much as my family. Having the opportunity to eat them in their home is one memory I will always treasure. His quiet strength bolstered me more often than I can count. His ability to love everyone set a standard I hope to one day achieve! We love you Reynolds family!

Gary was a very good friend of mine growing up in Cody. He was smart as a whip like the rest of the Reynolds Family. He was a good wrestler and was selected to attend Wyoming Boys State for is scholastic and leadership strengths. He was a classmate of mine at Cody High School and our class is scheduled to have our 50th class reunion this year in Cody. He will be missed and remembered. I was able to talk with him on the phone last summer and I so enjoyed our conversation. He left us too soon.

I had the opportunity to work with Gary in our ward YM and YW's. He had such a love for the youth. I am sure he wondered why he was being asked to be a young mens leader one more time. He needed to be there to share his testimony and love of the gospel with this group of young men. Wesley made the comment that he learned so much from him on their high adventures as he shared his testimony and insights of life and the gospel with them. I will be eternally grateful for the man that he was and the family he raised, as one of those sons I get to have in my family taking care of my daughter and our shared grandchildren. Kris we love you and Gary and are so glad we got to have you in our lives. May the light of Christ continue to be with you through this difficult time, we love you.
Kris and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Much love to all~

Brother Reynolds was always nice to me and put up with my goofing! I always loved to make a big deal of this one Christmas tie of his , I believe sister Reynolds bought it for him. Man! You sure looked good in that tie, Gray!! That tie is classy and handsome! It matched you well!! I can’t forget being at pioneer trek playing a little horse shoes with Gary and then watching Sister Reynolds beam with delight as Gary and her were dancing and teaching us all at trek how to dance. They had so much fun dancing , you could see it in how they looked at each other- they enjoyed dancing! Love you Brother and Sister Reynolds!

Gary has had such a profound influence on our family, so many memories have flooded back this week. One I treasure dearly happened twenty six years ago. Our two little daughters, my wife, about 8 months pregnant with our son, and I had just purchased a VA repo home which had been vacant for two years. We were all living in a loft area while the rest of the home was being renovated. Much of the sub-flooring on the main level was torn out and we were walking on floor joists. Gary was our bishop. One Sunday afternoon he and several elders showed up and said “the ox is in the mire”. And he went to work, jacking up the foundation, putting in the subflooring, teaching me how to replace and repair all the drywall, and restoring hope. Kris brought food over and had a little slip on the floor joists which tore a gash in her “thigh”. So many great memories of Sunday meals at their home, the first of which started as a surprise to Gary and Kris as the boys invited us without telling mom and dad. One spiritual comment of many that could be made: I will never forget Gary’s tremendous love for the Savior and his powerful testimony of the miracle of the atonement. What a dear friend he was and he will be sorely missed until we meet again.
..."Have you received His image in your countenance?"Those are the words that keep coming to mind when we think of Gary. He truly had the light of Christ in his eyes. He was such a kind, warm genuine person. He was like a grandpa to our youngest son Kase. They would talk wrestling and what kind of signatures moves would work best . After Kase`s last regional tournament a few months ago he said " I need to tell Gary how I did"!We will miss him so much.We love your family!!

when Gaby and I first moved into the ward Gary was the young men’s president and I was called to serve as his advisor. During my time serving in the priest quorum I learned from the actions of Brother Reynolds. He may not know it because I never was able to tell him but watching him interact with the youth and how he would listen and relate taught me how to do the same. I know Brother Reynolds lived for the gospel and his family. You can see how successful he was as a Husband, father and friend just by seeing how great his children and grandchildren are. They all seem to emulate a Christlike attribute and I know it’s because Brother and Sister Reynolds did all they could to walk in the path of the savior and I am grateful I was able to meet a man like Gary. We will miss you and God be with you till we meet again.
