Gary's obituary
Gary Arthur Peterson passed away in Kyle, Texas, surrounded by the love of his children. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in San Antonio, Gary lived a storied life that took many turns before settling into what he loved most—being a father.
He found his greatest joy in raising his three children in Georgetown, trying to keep up with their energy, and sharing with them his passions: blues and hard rock music, the salty air of the coast, skydiving, motorcycle rides, and the simple peace of a fishing line in the water.
Gary had a sharp wit, a fierce love for his family, and no hesitation in calling things exactly how he saw them. He reminded his kids to “stay cool in the rain” and wasn’t shy about letting them know when they were full of it—something they’ll always smile about.
He is survived by his children: Mackenzie Foster, Morgan Smith, and Maxwell Peterson; their Mother: Tiersana Barsby Peterson, and his siblings: Jerry, Karen, and Dennie Peterson; and his beloved grandchildren: Nolan Foster and Eden Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Virginia Peterson, his brothers Ronald, Donald, Larry Peterson and “adopted” brother Wally Buss; and his nephews: Austin Peterson and Michael Nielsen. He will be deeply missed and remembered with laughter, and a good guitar riff in the background.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Palliative Care Team at Ascension Seton Hays, especially NP Natalie, who ensured Gary passed with comfort, dignity and peace.
A service to honor Gary’s life will be held in Georgetown, Texas, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you play your favorite blues song, tell someone you love them, take a motorcycle ride or go fishing if you can.
