From Dr. Hyla Cass. A great lady we both worked with.

I just found this. Interesting I was thinking of Gary recently- wondering. I recall our communications a few years ago - it was a difficult time, for sure. He was one of a kind and I miss him! May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing.  I hope you and yours are well!

I only recently learned of Gary’s passing because Jamie contacted me just before the Holiday’s . Thank you Jamie, for letting me know.  I miss him. And I’m so sorry for your loss. Gary was a great Father to you and Brian.  And  a wonderful, fun, employer for many of us.

Larger than Life men are rare. And I have been blessed to know two in my lifetime.  Gary Osborn was one of them. He was an amazing man and would completely light up an entire room just by his awesome presence. And when he threw his head back and laughed that big belly laugh that only he could, brought a special joy to everyone.  His warmth, charisma, intelligence, and charming wit, set a level most just dream about.

I worked for Gary for years and remember that awful day of his stroke, which was painful for Gary and those of us who knew and loved him because we were totally helpless to help him or fix it.  All we could do was pray for him and his total recovery, which I did.

I am grateful Gary touched my life and am blessed to call him my friend. So rest in peace, my friend, which you’ve more than earned.

My dad was a great sculpture …

My dad was a great sculpture and Painter
I have one beautiful memory of my dad that dates back to the 1990s, when I was attending junior college and just starting my educational journey. In one of my career classes, the instructor mentioned that students could invite someone to come in and talk about their job. I asked my dad if he would come, not really expecting him to say yes. But not only did he show up, he delivered the most beautiful speech. I was so proud, and he even inspired curiosity among the other students. That was my dad—always showing up for me in the most meaningful ways.

The last twelve years were hard for all of us.  He had a stroke, and it changed him.  But, I am appreciatrive that I got the 12 years.   He was a loud, funny, smart and generous to a fault father, before the stroke and I prefer to remember him that way.

The dad I remember is the one from Ohio winters — running around in the snow with me, throwing a football even though I know now his knees were probably killing him.  Or even better, our ill conceived spring break trip to big bend that had us leaving the camp site in the pitch dark and driving hours through the desert so we could stay in a hotel!!

That’s the version of him I’m going to remember the most

And I’m grateful I got to be his son.

I came home from college during my freshman year and I got to meet Poppy at Starbucks. Even after his stroke, he was able to communicate with me that he didn’t want to be at Starbucks because it was too loud. He wanted to talk. We spent several hours there having a conversation in our new way that took a lot longer and more guesses on my part to figure out what he meant, but he was so happy to have that time. Years after that he would tell me how he wished we could do that again.  I loved that day and so did he.

I'll try to always remember Gary as a bright intelligent light in a dark world. He shared his knowledge with all and his passion for science and research. I wish his last years had been spent in better circumstances than those he had to deal with. May God smile on you Gary. You can be happy now.

Thank you, Jamie, for letting me know about Gary.  I'll always remember why I financed the start of Apothecure.  It was Gary's energy, creativity, forward thinking, and diligence.  I'll always think of him as a friend and regret his passing.
Gary was a smart, funny, classy guy and a true pioneer in his field. It's a shame that the last 20 years of his life were spent living under a cloud.  Now he is free from the misery.

Dad, I miss you more than anything else in this world. You were the best dad ever. What amazing times we had in life. My heart is broken. Rest now in peace.
