Gary's obituary

Gary Duane Ohler, a resident of Prescott, AZ, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2023, at the age of 56. He was born on November 30, 1966, in Tiffin, Ohio.

Gary was a man of many passions, including fishing, choir, volleyball, camping, boating, and traveling. He loved his children, Aubrey and Ian, and his grandchildren, Lleahm and Londyn, and cherished every moment spent with them. He was known for his charismatic personality and his ability to leave a lasting positive impact on those around him.

Gary was a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Communications. In his early career, Gary worked as a youth pastor and as a Child Protective Services agent.

Gary made the decision to relocate from Ohio to provide his loved ones with a brighter future. He found his calling in the management field of the natural food industry. Gary's career included working for New Frontiers Natural Marketplace in Flagstaff and Sedona, Arizona, where he formed strong bonds with his colleagues and customers. He also contributed his expertise to Whole Foods and Sprouts Marketplace. Gary eventually settled in Cottonwood, Arizona to raise his family.  Gary's commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family, who were an integral part of his life.

In 2013, Gary was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was successfully excised. However, the surgeries debilitated him, and he had to fight strenuously to maintain his quality of life thereafter. He fought tirelessly alongside his children to battle Arizona's long-term care system to secure the care he deserved. Despite his troubles, Gary never lost hope and always persevered. Eventually, after years of fighting, Gary and his children finally successfully placed him in an assisted living home. Sadly, he breathed his last just five days after relocating.

Gary was a fighter, but struggled to care for his medical needs. Despite his children's best efforts to care for him over the last decade, it wasn’t enough and Unfortunately, the toll on Gary's body was too heavy from years of not being able to get his medical needs met.

Gary's cause of death was officially listed as pulmonary failure. It is unfortunate to note that Gary's death was a result of not being able to care for himself and could have been prevented. However, in death, Gary continued to make a difference as an organ donor, positively impacting the lives of others.

Gary's extended family held a memorial service in Ohio without notifying his children or loved ones in Arizona. As a result, there will be no further public memorial service. However, As a tribute to Gary's memory and all he stood for, donations can be made to the Gray Matters Foundation.

Gary is survived by his son, Ian Ohler-Romines; daughter, Aubrey Ohler-Romines; grandson, Lleahm Whitmarsh; and granddaughter, Londyn Jennings.

We extend our deepest condolences to Gary's children and loved ones during this difficult time. May his memory live on through the lives he touched and the legacy he leaves behind.
