Gary's obituary
Gary Michael Mills, 75, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on January 8, 2026, surrounded by his beloved wife and family after a brief battle with cancer.
Gary was born on January 14, 1950, to Ira Granville and Madge Lois Dowell Mills, and grew up in Hillsboro, Ohio, Wyoming, and Lockland, Ohio. He graduated from Lockland High School in 1968, where he played baseball and developed a lifelong love of sports.
In December 1974, Gary met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Pelon. Their romance was swift and sure-when he first proposed, she thought it was too soon. Undeterred, Gary asked again just a week later, and this time she said yes. They married on September 20, 1975, and quickly began building their life together, welcoming three sons: Brian Michael in 1977, Keith Allen in 1978, and Kevin Scott in 1982.
Gary's faith in Christ was the foundation of everything he did. A member of Northern Hills Bible Chapel since 1973, he faithfully served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and was beloved for his creative Bible Baseball game. His heart for young people extended to his role as Camp Director at White Water Bible Camp for more than 30 years where he inspired generations of campers' faith. Even as his role changed, Gary remained devoted to the camp, serving on its board and mentoring new leaders with the same passion and wisdom he'd shown for decades.
Above all, Gary was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He rarely missed a game, band concert, or school event, cheering on his sons and grandchildren in football, soccer, basketball, and every pursuit they loved. While sports held a special place in his heart, he encouraged each grandchild to discover and embrace their own unique passions.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Mills and Madge Dowell Mills.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Barbara Jean Pelon Mills; his son Brian Mills and wife Melissa Mills, and their children Dylan Lawhorn, Meredith Rickey, and Miles Rickey; his son Keith Mills and wife Leah Mills, and their children Ashlyn, Caleb, Mason, and Emersyn; and his son Kevin Mills and wife Erica Mills, and their children Cameron and Elaina.
