Gary's obituary

We are sad to say goodbye to Gary Keyes Jr., who passed away peacefully around June 7, 2024. Born on October 7, 1957, Gary lived a full life  he loved family, laughter, and a love for the simple pleasures.

Gary is survived by his loving family that he cherished deeply: daughter Hannah Humble, sons Samuel and Zephaniah Keyes, grandson Hezekiah Keyes, daughter-in-law Samantha Keyes, son-in-law JJ Humble, mother Georgia Lewis, brother Patrick Keyes, sisters Connie Thompson, Pam Patterson, and Angela Thompson. He is also survived by his ex-wife Tacy Keyes, his daughter-in-law Charlize Keyes, daughter Amber Keyes and grandson James Humble III. Gary was predeceased by his father Gary Keyes Sr., step-father Bill Lewis, and step-mother JoAnn Keyes.

As a man of simple tastes, Gary had a special love for food that didn't require teeth, particularly watermelon, mashed potatoes, BBQ, coleslaw, and potato salad. His love for literature was satisfied by Louis L'amour and his musical taste was rockin', ranging from Led Zeppelin and AC/DC to Credence Clearwater Revival and The Eagles among many others. Television time for Gary usually involved episodes of NCIS, the Andy Griffith Show, Friends, and anything related to the Broncos. His all-time favorite films included Cowboy movies, Fools Rush In, Princess Bride, Young Frankenstein, and classic comedy from Abbott and Costello.

Gary loved to be on the move, from driving up to the mountains to seeking out new people to meet. He also had a love for amusement parks with rollercoasters and vacationing in California. Perhaps the best way to describe Gary was 'goofy', his light-hearted nature often lifted the spirits of those around him. He could always provide a good tip on car maintenance and was proud of the family he raised. His legacy - best described as 'always a story and a laugh' - will be carried on by his children and grandchildren.

Gary's unbreakable spirit and zest for life will be dearly missed, but his memory will reside forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
