Gary's obituary
Gary “Big G” Anderson Greene was born December 10, 1954 to Annie Laura Batson and Clarence Anderson Greene in Madison, TN. He had two siblings, Michael and Connie whom he loved with all his heart and teased with an affection that knew no bounds. Gary inherited incredible patience and kindness from his mother and a dimpled chin and toughness from his father. His wife, Jann Ellen Waltenbaugh Greene, saw him at the community pool in 7th grade, proclaimed him as handsome as a Greek god, and married him years later in 1974. Gary and Jann were married 49 wonderful years, all of which were filled with true love, laughter, and adventure. They had two children, Kristy and Daniel, who inherited their dad’s gusto for a light-hearted joke during a sensitive moment. Gary was a master electrician and contractor, eventually starting his own business Elec-Tech Electrical Services in Nashville and retiring in 2020. Everything Gary did, he started from the ground up and made so many dreams come true.
Gary was a kind and loving husband, father, uncle, and friend. He was proud of his 5 granddaughters who called him “Pappy”. His son Daniel married Renee Whitehead, and together they have Bridgette and Annabeth. Kristy married Jinda Phommavongsa, and together they have Annie, Gemma, and Elle. Gary had the kind of calm protective nature to which all dogs and babies are drawn. His family and friends will cherish memories of the countless times he brightened their days.
One of Gary’s lifelong dreams was to build a log house in the woods, which he accomplished in 2002 in Cottontown, TN. The home has hosted weddings, celebrations, and legendary bonfires. Gary was an avid naturalist: a deer hunter, fisherman, gardener, bee keeper, and chicken farmer. Gary embodied the “do it yourself” spirit and could build or fix anything, never getting frustrated no matter how many trips to the hardware store he took.
Gary cheated death many times during his life: hunting, four wheeling, and working around his property with farm equipment, just to name a few. He died of a brain aneurysm on Nov 15, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, sarcastic and witty comments, and a transformation of dull family gatherings into eagerly anticipated festivities.
Aside from loving his family, Gary loved the beach, Wrangler blue jeans, Ford trucks, westerns, intensely spicy food, vintage country music, and chess pie. He didn’t hate much, but he hated possums, crock pot dinners, and nuts in his food.
The Greene family will welcome visitors to celebrate Gary’s life at Partlow Funeral Chapel at 233 W Main St in Lebanon, TN on Tuesday November 21st from 3-6pm.
