Gary's obituary
Gary Edward Gerads, 82, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, in Bend, Oregon. Born on October 20, 1942, in Portland, Oregon, Gary lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and Elks Lodge community and the simple joys of the outdoors.
Gary served his country with honor during his time in the United States Air Force. Though his military service was brief, it reflected his commitment to duty and integrity. Following his honorable discharge, Gary returned to civilian life and devoted himself to hard work and providing for those he loved.
A faithful Catholic throughout his life, Gary’s faith was a cornerstone of his character. He found solace and strength in his beliefs and carried them into every aspect of his life. His love for family was unwavering; he cherished time spent with his children—Bruce Gerads, Larry Gerads, and Lorraine Dailey—as well as all his stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gary had a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and camping, often finding peace in the beauty of the natural world. His property was a source of pride and joy for him—a place where he could connect with the land he loved. He also held a special fondness for visiting Hawaii, where he created lasting memories surrounded by its serene landscapes.
A committal service will be held on February 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Willamette National Cemetery, located at 11800 SE Mount Scott Blvd., Happy Valley, Oregon. The service will conclude at 1:30 PM. Following the committal service, a celebration of Gary’s life will take place at the Milwaukie Elks Lodge at 2:00.
