Gary's obituary

Gary Wayne Duvall, Sr., age 68, of Jefferson, Maryland, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Jefferson. Born on October 11, 1956, in Frederick, Maryland, Gary lived a life rooted in hard work, community service, and deep devotion to his family.

A graduate of Frederick High School’s Class of 1975, Gary built a long and dedicated career across several roles that reflected both his mechanical skill and his commitment to serving others. He worked for BFI for 21 years as a mechanic and shop supervisor before joining the City of Frederick as an equipment operator for 20 years until his retirement. He served with Frederick County Transit for 15 years as a bus driver. His strong work ethic and friendly nature made him a familiar and respected face throughout the community.

Gary also had a longstanding connection with Hemp’s Meats. For 27 years, he worked at their stand at The Great Frederick Fair—an event he cherished—and spent 7 years working at Hemp’s Meat Shop in Jefferson. His presence at the fair became something many looked forward to year after year. Beyond his professional life, Gary was deeply involved in his community. He volunteered regularly at the Jefferson Carnival and was an active member of Boonsboro Bible Church and a former member of United Fire Company.

Gary was a beacon of joy, lighting up any room he entered with his infectious humor. He was a jokester, always ready with a witty remark. But beneath that was a man of immense kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His loving nature made him a favorite among friends and family alike, creating a legacy of love and laughter that will live on in his absence.

Gary found his greatest joy in spending time with family and friends. He was a loving husband to Paulette Duvall; a devoted father to Keith Duvall and his wife Heather Duvall; April Smith and her husband Jason Smith; and Gary Duvall Jr. and his wife Sharon Duvall. He was a proud grandfather to Rebecca Duvall, Bryan Duvall, Jayla Smith, and Savannah Smith.

He is also remembered by his siblings: brother Leroy Duvall; brother Bill Duvall and sister-in-law Brenda Duvall; sister Pauline Dick and brother-in-law Ralph Dick and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Nettie Duvall; as well as brothers Charles Duvall and Donald Duvall.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2025, at 01:00 PM at Jefferson Ruritan 4603B Lander Rd, Jefferson, MD 21755. Please dress casual.
