Steve was a great teammate. We both came to OU as a running back and me as a fullback. Our skills were well recognized as we became Defensive Ends.

He will be missed.

Steve was my first crush in junior high school. Although he didn’t know it. He was a great guy!

Unlike most of you, Steve was my best friend in elementary school thru junior high.   He was the first person I met in Mr. Utley's office bringing the lunch money while I was enrolling.  I thought I was in the land of the giants and was ready to immediately move back from where I came.  We were both eleven.  In junior high we made a pack to be in each other's wedding.  We fulfilled that pack.  We made other packs, some fulfilled others were pipe dreams, but always the best of friends.  We chose teaching and coaching as a noble profession but went our separate ways.  But we never lost the love we had for each other, our children, our students.  Sheri thanks for finding me.  Steve, thanks for all the memories, and God thanks for taking him into your hands!
I had the privilege of coaching Steve at Lindsay (Oklahoma) high school and found him to be a fine young man.

This was devastating news but I am comfortable knowing that Steve is with the lord right now. He was a man of conviction and believed in his salvation thru Jesus Christ. Steve was my cousin but he always treated me like a little brother. I have many memories about Steve and I will cherish them always. To his immediate family, I am keeping you in my heart and prayers during this most difficult time.

Till me meet again…

Steve was my English teacher for two years in Junior High and became a mentor of mine. He was one of the first people to encourage me to deeply explore the creative spirit I had in me for writing. I published several short poems and stories as a student of his and that inspired me to explore a field in creative arts. That led me to Television and Entertainment where I rose through the ranks and spent more than 17 years of my career continually challenging that creative spirit. Now, almost 40 years old, I hold 10 Emmy Awards, 11 Global Entertainment Academy of Arts Awards and two Edward R Murrow Awards. I teach writing for my industry and now another industry. I’ve led sessions at national conferences keeping that creative spark alive. I truly feel the genesis of all of this in my life was Steve Dodd. I am so tremendously grateful for his presence in my life and have thought of him often. When I went through an incredibly hard time in like in 2021, I began to lean into writing again, first just for myself but now I am working towards publishing my story in a book. When I sit down to write each chapter, I think of Steve. He would be so proud of who I’ve become and what I hope to still accomplish. In his memory, I’ll continue to pursue this spirit and if I’m so lucky, spark that spirit in others. May we all carry on his legacy. Thank you for inspiring me in life, Steve. I am deeply saddened that you’ve left this world but you r legacy remains in all of us. Forever grateful, Danielle Reeves (now Danielle Calcara).

Our deepest condolences to the Dodd family. Coach Dodd was a dedicated teacher, Coach, mentor, and friend. His love of the game and discipline is what started a long run of championship football at Washington High School. I will never forget the coaching skills he taught me and our friendship. May God provide the Dodd family comfort during this time of loss. We love Steve and his family dearly

For two or three years of our time at Euless, we had a potluck lunch during testing week.  I cooked brisket over night and brought it to the staff room in the morning.  Steve asked me to save the trimmings for his dogs.  After the second or third year Steve told me that his dogs ate better than he did.  Laughing, he said that he never got to the staff room before the brisket was gone. RIP friend.

To the Dodd family, our thoughts & prayers are with you. May treasured memories fill your soul.

With love, Jody & Mark Holden
