Gary's obituary
Gary Day Sr., 64 of Lakewood, passed away peacefully at home on September 30, 2025. He was born and raised in Wayne and attended Wayne Hills High School. It was during high school at the age of 16 when he began working in the tree service industry and developed a profound passion for the trade.
In 1985, he and his family moved to Brick where he eventually raised three children and spent more than 30 years as the proud owner and operator of Gary’s Tree Experts, a thriving family-run tree service. His business was a testament to his three greatest loves – nature, people, and his children, as each of them spent time working for him throughout the years.
Gary was a free spirit with a larger-than-life personality and an incredible sense of humor. An instant friend to many, he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone about anything. He had a generous heart of gold and would do anything for anybody, even strangers. He was the type of person who would see a beggar on the street and instead of ignoring their presence, he would offer them a job and give them a chance. He truly saw the good in everybody he encountered.
Of all his passions his greatest love was discovered when he became a grandfather to Hazel and Casey, and step-grandfather to Gracie and Christiana. There was nothing that made him happier than spending time with them, especially in the great outdoors swimming, looking for cool bugs or going to the boardwalk, alongside Marion, his loving and devoted wife and partner of over 20 years.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjorie Day (Truex), and brothers Brian Day and Keith Day.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Porciello; children Gary Day Jr., Angela (Joseph) Pittius, and John Day; grandchildren Hazel and Casey Pittius; stepson David Porciello; step-grandchildren Grace and Christiana Porciello; brother Paul (Lisa) Day; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, October 13th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road Brick, NJ 08723.
