Gary's obituary

Gary Nevon “Pappy” Conley, 82, of Denton, TX passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 2, 2023. Gary was born November 12th, 1940 in Cottondale, TX to Melba Joe Coffman and Francis G. Conley. He was a graduate of Boyd High School and attended TCJC. He served his country as a Radio Intercept Analysis Operator in the US Air Force, stationed in Okinawa and San Antonio. He married Lynda Bostick, on December 22, 1962 in Ft Worth, TX. Together, they raised three children, countless furbabies, and took great pride in their four grandchildren.

Gary was always a hard worker, holding down multiple jobs at times, from food service to retail to technology. After working at Andrew Corporation for 16 years, he retired briefly before rejoining the workforce as a printer tech for DI Laser. His last job was one he enjoyed the most as a cashier for Walmart Neighborhood Market, and something he always aspired to return to after he “beat cancer”.

When time allowed, he enjoyed painting, photography, writing, and woodworking. From a very young age, he had a passion for trains that carried him into his adult life and then shared that passion with his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynda, son Gary Lynn Conley (Leyna) of NY, daughters Tina Hudson of Bowie TX, and Amy Hiley (Todd) of Denton TX, grandchildren Kaedance Fuller, Colten Hiley, Wyatt Hudson and Garrett Hudson, siblings Frank Conley of IL, Linda Conley of IL, Joe Vess of AR, and several cousins, nieces, & nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Melba Joe & James Mathis, Francis & Edla Conley, siblings George Coffman, Donnie Vess, Kathy Scott, and Pat Conley.

Services will be held Friday, November 17, at 2:30 pm at the DFW National Cemetery.
