Gary Mayo Cone Jr., 47, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023 at Grandview Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama after a 7 month battle with stomach cancer. He was born July 22, 1976 to Daphne Tuttle White and Gary Mayo Cone Sr., in Mobile, Alabama. The family moved to Hoover, AL in the late 1970’s.

Gary graduated with the last class of Berry High School in Hoover, AL, in 1994. He went on to briefly attend Auburn University, then began a career in banking in Birmingham. He was employed at Centennial Bank as a business analyst consultant prior to his passing. He attended Church of the Highlands, Riverchase Campus, and professed his faith in Christ as his Savior and Lord.

Gary was a good-natured person who enjoyed helping others. He was a gentle, soft-hearted, kind person whose favorite time of the year was Christmas and his happy place was by the ocean. He loved all sports and played competitive soccer in high school. He had an abounding love of football, both college and professional. He kept tabs on every player and coach in the NFL as well. Gary met the love of his life, Starr Gaither in March, 2020. He proposed to her on Christmas morning, 2022; however, wedding plans were put on hold when he was diagnosed in May, 2023. He was a loving and devoted father figure to her son, Nolan. Gary‘s piercing blue eyes, beautiful smile, and true heart of gold will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Mayo Cone Sr., and his grandparents, Melvin Mayo and Gladys Velma Cone, of Mobile, AL, and Johnny and Kaye Tuttle, of Waynesboro, MS. He is survived by his mother, Daphne Tuttle White, her partner, Dave Henson, and sisters Marsa (Jeff) Aston, Ashleigh Cone (Shawn) Offutt, Brittny (Aaron) Jones, nieces & nephews Taylor and Jackson Janousek, Carson and Olivia Davis, Connor and Allie Jones, and fiancé Starr Gaither and her son, Nolan Edge Kendrick.
