Garvin Ray Burris was born in Gaines County, TX on January 17, 1935. At 18, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. While in the service, he was stationed at bases from Japan to Guam and points from Alaska to Texas, where his appreciation of other cultures began. While stationed at Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, NM, he attended cosmetology school where he met his future wife, Betty. He went in for a Barber’s …
