Gail's obituary

Gail Harriett Mazur, 76, of Flower Mound, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2024, after a late diagnosis of lung cancer. Her time from diagnosis to hospice was very brief, and she spent her few days in hospice always smiling, completely at peace and contentment, reassuring those who love her that it was time for her to take her next step into her eternal life with Jesus. Gail chose to rest in the knowledge that she had completed all that the Lord had dreamed for her in this world, and her calm in her final days here on earth was inspirational.

Gail was born on January 9, 1948, to Max and Esther Mazur (both deceased) in St. Louis, Missouri. Gail was the youngest sister of Diana Dietrich (deceased) and Jack Mazur, 81, who currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Gail graduated from Ladue High School in 1966 and later attended the University of Missouri—Columbia to study Psychology and History.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law Joel Leake, of Flower Mound, Texas. Gail delighted in her two grandchildren: Taylor and Tristan.

Gail’s life should really be split into two seasons: her life before she came to trust in Jesus as her Lord and her life that really started with a lot of questions and an open heart to receive everything that she had searched for before Jesus.

For most of her life, Gail pursued what the world told her was the way to happiness and contentment. There were certainly great memories that she carried from that season, including her immense joy in spending time with her family. She loved to play Scrabble, and delighted in marathon sessions with everyone who visited her! She also loved to bake and prided herself on how people enjoyed her food. But one always got the sense from Gail that she was still searching for the deeper connection and love that her heart craved.

When Gail was 68 years young, God’s grace transformed her heart. God opened her eyes to see Jesus as the One who loves her completely and unconditionally. Gail was baptized in May 2016, and that was truly when her life began. More than anything else, grace softened her heart and allowed her to see her identity solely as God’s beloved daughter.

Gail loved to pray, every morning, for her friends and family. She cherished her godly relationships. Gail loved that she was reborn into a family of believers, and she found strength in being connected to her Valley Creek community.

Gail leaves this earthly life as a daughter of the King, as a beloved friend, and as a cherished mother and Grammy. Rejoice that she found her true identity in Jesus, whom she now sees face-to-face.

Memorial service will be at the Flower Mound campus of Valley Creek Church on April 17, 2024, at 3 pm.
