Gail's obituary

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Gail’s passing on Wednesday Aug 17, 2022.

On the morning of Monday Aug 8 she played Pickleball, a new found passion since moving to Rarity Bay, with her dear friends. The next day she was feeling ill and was admitted to Tennova Medical Center where she was diagnosed with a severe blood infection. Gail sustained a life-threatening injury seven years prior that resulted in the removal of her spleen. This left her immunocompromised and susceptible to infection. The Doctors were able to keep her comfortable but the infection was too much. We were by her side and had one last opportunity to tell her we loved her and thank her for dedicating her life as a wonderful mother, wife and best friend. Please know that she passed away painlessly and peacefully.

Gail was born in Cleveland, OH, but spent her formative years in Ogallala NE. There she found her passion for animals and her family always included a dog, cat or other creature which she could dote on. A good family friend introduced her to horses and she participated in Jr. Barrel Racing for a few years. Summer days were spent on Lake McConaughy where her love for the water and beach life began.

Her family moved once again, this time to Arlington Heights, IL where she attended Hersey High School and participated in musicals and plays. She played piano and had a deep love of music. She loved Jazz and anything by Barry White…..

Gail attended Florida Southern in Lakeland, FL majoring in business and marketing. She identified years ago the growth potential in Senior Housing, a field in which she spent her entire career. Her last job was as Sr. Director of Marketing for a large development in Lisle, IL.

We met in Deerfield, IL and although it sounds cliché, it was love at first sight and were married a year and a half later. She was blessed with two wonderful children and was a loving and devoted mother. She passed on her love of cars, adventure and music to her son Geoffrey. She once received a birthday gift to attend a Mario Andretti Driving School -she was smiling for a week. Katie inherited her mother’s love of music, dance, travel and reading. Both share her passion for animals. It was once said that if you believe in reincarnation you would want to come back as Gail’s dog – you would be guaranteed a blessed life.

As she started to focus on her pending retirement, lake living was a must. The journey began six years ago and ironically started at Tellico Lake and eventually came full circle landing in Rarity Bay. She loved the building process and embraced every facet of planning and design. Sadly, she only spent thirty days in her new home, but the memory of her vision will carry on.

Gail was a modest person and really did not enjoy being the center of attention and requested that we do not have a memorial service. She did feel that a Celebration of Life gathering would be more appropriate. The plans are underway and will be shared soon.

Kind regards,

Ed, Geoffrey and Katie Magoon
