Gail's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gail Jean Eustice, who departed this life on July 15, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 12, 1947 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Gail grew up on the beaches of Southern California and finally retired to Illinois, where she relished in her lifelong love of travel, books, and family. Gail's warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her. She dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others, working tirelessly as a nurse and later as a hospital administrator. Her compassionate spirit and unwavering dedication to her profession made a profound impact on her colleagues and the countless patients she cared for over the years. Gail was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an excellent knitter, creating beautiful and intricate pieces that will be cherished by her family and friends. Gail had a keen eye for antiques and loved spending time traveling around the country discovering hidden treasures and pieces of history. She was also a lover of all things "The Wizard of Oz," finding joy and inspiration in the timeless story, its characters, and the excitement of the hunt for ever rarer editions of the books.
Above all, Gail was a devoted family woman. Her family was the center of her universe, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments. She enjoyed baking cookies with little ones, challenging others to rounds of trivia and Rummikub, and completing puzzle after puzzle with her beloved husband. Her legacy of love, strength, and resilience will live on in the hearts of her loved ones. Gail is survived by her husband Christopher, children Scott, Brian, and Cortney (Adam), stepdaughter Christen (Michael), grandchildren Connor, Emily (Aaron), Henry, Oliver, Parker, Genevieve, Remy, Reagan, Hudson and Lillienne, and great-grandchildren Aaliyah and Matteo, as well as her brother Terry (Joann). She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and LaVerne Luft. A celebration of Gail's life will be held in September with more details to come. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her name. Gail's memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Let us celebrate Gail’s transition over the rainbow by recalling the words of Dorothy Gale herself, “I’m so glad to be home again!”
