Funmi's obituary

Olufunmike (Foomz) Ferance Adeyemi of Burke, Virginia passed away on October 17, 2024. Born on November 25, 1974 in St. Louis, MO, Foomz was a Marine Corps combat veteran who served as an infantry officer for 20 years, retiring at the rank of Major. Foomz held a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from the George Washington University School of Business.

Throughout his military career, Foomz deployed to Greece, Italy, Israel, Iraq, Pakistan, the Republic of Georgia, Turkey, and several other NATO countries. Since transitioning to government contracting in 2017, Foomz served as a Program Manager at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency where he managed the procurement and financial contracts for intelligence community external agencies.

He was a devoted husband to Alyssa Defrin-Adeyemi, father to Emily and Isaiah Adeyemi, son-in-law to Melvyn and Suzanne Defrin, brother-in-law to Carolyn Defrin, brother to the late Ben Adeyemi and nephew to the late Glenda Webb.

Foomz was a man of service in every way – in family, in faith, in community, and in play. He coached soccer, volunteered at school, and was always the first to reach out when a friend or family member needed support. He was active in his synagogue, Temple B’nai Shalom in Fairfax Station, Virginia, and served as a Board Member for the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center.

Foomz enriched the lives of everyone he met with love, laughter, and profound care. He will be remembered for his booming voice, his funny stories, his enthusiasm on the sidelines of a soccer game, and his love of comic books and tabletop gaming. He made friends wherever he went, creating a vast and varied network of people who are all better for having known him.
