Patti and Leslie, I’m so sorry to hear that Fred is gone. We were co-workers at Springer publishing Company. I believe he started work there on his birthday in 1990 or so. We rode the same subway back to Brooklyn together and soon found out that we had a shared love for Mets, Brooklyn, maps, subways, dogs.
He had so many interests and threw himself into them so wholeheartedly. I’ve been missing his mailings but only now just tried calling him, only to find out he had died.
Love to all the others who wrote so warmly of him. Hoping he has reunited with his loved ones on the other side.

My spouse (Peter Lewis) was a friend of Fred. He exchanged zines with him. He also visited him in NY : ) It's sad to hear when a friend has passed. Peter did not want to know why the zine exchange was not happening anymore. He may not want to fully acknowlege that Fred has passed (Fred will live on in his Zines!). However, partly because of Fred, Peter is now a Station Agent at King Street Station in Seattle, WA. Long Live Fred and his influence!

This is Fred's cousin Paul. I only found out about his passing this week, after wondering about my copy of Brooklyn! It was a little goofy, a lotta fun, and very informative too! I'll miss that. And I'll treasure the memory I have of walking across the Brooklyn Bridge with him during a NYC visit (nice photo too).
Patti and Leslie, if you wish to, you can reach me at <pfeldblum@gmail.com>. Condolences to you both. Paul

I send my sincere condolences to Fred's family. He and I were pen pals for about 20 years and I always treasured seeing his mail when it came. He was kind and encouraging, thoughtful and a great supporter of other zinesters. He will be greatly missed. Brooklyn should name something after him!

I'm shocked and saddened to have just found out why I had not heard from Fred; he was a great pen pal - and I thoroughly enjoyed his 'zines' on BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- It was unusual that I had not heard from him since my last letter to him. I could not understand why my Christmas card to him was returned. My heart goes out to his friends, family. I've lost a friend.

Very sad to hear of Fred's passing. I didn't know him that well -- only through the mail -- but he was always generous with his time and his zines, and he always had a fascinating tidbit of information to share. He'll be greatly missed!

We lost a good friend... I will miss you. You were always kind to me. Despite or differences. RIP Fred may we all find comfort at this time.

I'm so sad to hear of Fred's death, although I suspected something was wrong. He had been such an active letter-writer and zinester that it was unusual to not hear from him. My last letter from him contained a Chanukah gift, two months early! I wonder whether he knew he'd be gone by then.
My condolences to Patti!

I knew Fred through the mails (and enjoyed hearing about his impatience with USPS). We were old-fashioned pen-pals. And I enjoyed reading some of his zines. But primarily, we wrote, him about his beloved Jets and Mets, me about my equally beloved Baltimore Orioles. About our shared love for the Beatles. I was always happy to see his map-based stationery in the mailbox, and will miss hearing from him, and chatting back with him. Deepest condolences to Fred's family.
