Fred's obituary
Frederick Stephen Widmer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was called home peacefully in his sleep on September 3, 2025, at the age of 77 in Austin, Texas. Born during January of 1948 in Florida, to Reuben B. and Annabel Widmer. Frederick lived his life rooted in love, faith and perseverance.
He grew up in Winfield, Iowa where he formed his work ethic delivering newspapers and helping with seasonal crops, and his love for football as an all-conference lineman at Winfield – Mt. Union High School. He went on to earn a business degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa where he met the love of his life.
Frederick was joined in Holy Matrimony with Paulette Widmer on March 10, 1973 in Fairview Park, Ohio. Their marriage was blessed with sons Steven, Nathaniel and Andrew.
Frederick worked in numerous accounting positions in California's San Francisco Bay area before getting a job with Apple Computers which moved the family to Austin, Texas in 1994. He finished his working life with Travis Integral Care as a project manager. In retirement he enjoyed fellowship at his church, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He was Preceded in death by his Mother in 2008; Father in 2014; Sisters Rebecca Widmer in 1941 and Charlotte Lilliedahl in 2025. He is Survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Paulette Widmer; Sons Steven Widmer and wife Alisa; Nathaniel Widmer; Andrew Widmer and wife Sarah; sister Cathleen Widmer Wilterdink; brother Philip Widmer and wife Debra; grandchildren Henry Widmer; Jacob Widmer; Penelope Widmer; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial Services for Frederick will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Hope Presbyterian Church (11512 Olson Dr, Austin, TX 78750) followed by reception in the Fellowship Hall of Hope Presbyterian Church.
