Frederick's obituary
Frederick Donald Morrell, 85, of Troy, MI, passed away on February 27, 2024. He was born on December 5, 1938, in Detroit, MI. Fred, as he preferred to be called, had a fulfilling life surrounded by his loved ones.
Fred was a graduate of Centerline High School. He was a proud Navy veteran, serving 2 years of active duty and 4 years in the reserves. After his military service, he furthered his education at Lawrence Tech. and later dedicated his career to General Motors. He was a hardworking and dedicated employee.
Outside of his professional life, Fred was a devoted family man. He cherished spending time with his wife, Diane, and daughters, Pamela (Mark) Amell and Cheryl (Jeff) Stewart. His grandchildren, Calvin, Jacob, Hailey, Job, and Rachel, brought him immense joy. Fred loved animals and had many pets throughout his life. He had a special place in his heart for his cats, Bella, and his beloved late cat, Josey.
Fred enjoyed traveling, which included many camping trips with friends over the years. He also had a variety of hobbies, including golf, bowling, building model ships, watching sports (especially baseball), DIY projects, woodworking, and counted cross-stitch. Attending his grandkids' activities and sporting events brought him great joy!
Well into his 70’s, Fred had the pleasure of being reunited with his birth family. He enjoyed getting to know and spending time with his remaining siblings, Gerri, Jackie, Bob, Sharon, and their extended families.
Fred was a member of Big Beaver United Methodist Church, where he found solace and loved community with his church family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at Big Beaver United Methodist Church. The service will be streamed live on YouTube @bbumchurch for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Big Beaver United Methodist Church or the American Lung Association in Fred's memory. Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
