Frederick's obituary

Frederick Duane Lindquist (84) passed away on October 16, 2020, at his home in Longmont, CO.

He was born on August 4, 1936, in Fort Collins, CO to Fred and Lucille “Billie” (Newlun) Lindquist. Freddie’s childhood homes were Keystone, WY, Gould, CO, and Walden, CO. He graduated from Jackson County High School in Walden with the class of 1955.

Following high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served for eight years including reserves. Boot camp training was at Camp Pendleton, CA. His tour of duty was with the Forced Reconnaissance 1st Division; the mission was focused on primarily supporting Marine expeditionary and amphibious operations. The unit’s various methods of airborne, heliborne, submarine, and waterborne insertions and extractions are similar to those of the Navy Seals, Army Green Berets, and Air Force Combat Controllers. Fred was discharged from active service with the rank of Corporal (E-4), and passed the test for the rank of Sergeant, and was recommended for reenlistment. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Promotions, Expert Rifleman, Proof Technician (firearms), NCO School Leadership Training, and was an NCO Leadership School Instructor stationed on Coronado Island in San Diego, CA.

Fred was employed by General Dynamics during the Atlas Missile Program in Cheyenne, WY, and Altus, OK. He was then employed with U-Haul in Denver, CO for ten years where he became President of the U-Haul Repair and Manufacturing Facility. Working in the truck equipment industry was his last career experience. He was a manufacturer area representative and a salesman. His territory included all states west of the Mississippi River, which included over 20 years of travel. Fred enjoyed traveling and the job allowed him to fly home on weekends. In his retirement, Fred became involved with his wife, Luella’s interest in The St. Vrain Historical Society in Longmont, CO where he volunteered as an errand runner, “heavy-lifter,” Santa Claus, and various other tasks.

Fred married his high school sweetheart, a Cowdry girl named Luella Schilling on July 14, 1956, in Denver, CO. Loving Luella included loving her little brother Bert Dean Schilling. Fred and Luella are parents to Peggy Luan, Mark Duane, and Kenneth Vyrl. Bert is the special big brother to all three, as well as a special part of the Lindquist family.

Fred received his Last Rites Sacrament from Father Robert L. Wedlow, and Mass at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Erie, CO. on October 18, 2020.

Fred is survived by many special friends and his loving family as follows:

His wife of 64 years, Luella (Schilling) Lindquist
