Dear Janalee and the Family of Fred,
I am deeply saddened to hear of Fred’s passing. He was truly one of a kind—a quiet, selfless soul whose kindness touched lives in ways most people never even knew.
I’ll never forget the day I saw him walking a little faster than usual. When I asked if everything was okay, he smiled and said, “Yes—I just noticed a water leak coming from outside a guy’s fence. He won’t see it, so I went home, grabbed my tools, and fixed it.” This was off McClay Road, for a stranger who likely never knew the good deed done for him. This silly little act says it all about Fred.
Though I lived just five miles from where he grew up in Duxbury, MA, it took 3,000 miles for my husband and me to meet Fred and Janalee. The world is small, but it was immeasurably better with dear Fred in it.
Rest in peace, Fred. You’ve done your job—and done it beautifully.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Peter and Chrissy. Theran
