Fred DeLozier (87) passed away peacefully at home after a twenty-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. At his side was his wife of nearly sixty-five years, Mary Joyce Shows DeLozier. Fred was born to Lewis Oliver and Gladys Perkall DeLozier in 1935 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His family lived in Boston, on Nantucket island, and In Omaha, Nebraska, before returning to Florida to settle in Tampa. He began working parttime for JCPenney’s at the age of seventeen. As a management trainee, he relocated to Pensacola where he met Miss Shows. The two married on January 18, 1958. Together, they had three children and moved throughout the southeast during his forty-three year career with JCPenney’s, before retiring to Birmingham, Alabama.
Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. His faith in Jesus Christ, his love for his family and service through Brookwood Baptist Church were his priorities. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son Stephen Frederick “Stevie” DeLozier (6 mos.); and a brother Lawrence “Larry” DeLozier. He is survived by his wife, Joyce DeLozier of Birmingham; a sister, Carol O’Connell of Dade City, Florida; two sons, James Lewis “Jim” DeLozier (Kim) of Atlanta; and, David Barrett “Barry” DeLozier (Cathy) of Birmingham; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
