Frederick's obituary
Frederick Cecil Bowles
January 9, 1946 – May 1, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Cecil Bowles, age 79, on May 1, 2025. Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Fred was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
A successful entrepreneur, Fred was known for building meaningful relationships in the business community. Yet his greatest passion was his full-time ministry work as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Over the years, he helped many come to understand Bible teachings that deeply enriched their lives. His dedication to his faith and those he served left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Fred was also known for his warm personality, love of playing cards, and his ever-ready supply of classic “dad jokes,” which brought smiles to countless faces. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors—he loved biking, camping, skiing, spending time in nature, and had a special fondness for animals. Fred also greatly enjoyed socializing with friends, always bringing joy and laughter to any gathering. His sense of humor, wisdom, and kind heart made him a joy to be around.
Fred passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Darleen Bowles; daughter Brooklyn (Sean) Castro, and granddaughter Venice Castro; son Torey Schmidt, and grandsons Dorian Schmidt and Taylor Schmidt; daughter Shaina (Peter Borriello), and grandson Kashtyn Di Rocco; honorary daughter Marcy (Rory) Dean, and honorary grandsons, Amare, Carter, and Mason.
He is also survived by his sisters Evelyn Hodgson and Eunice (Graham) Cammell; nephew David Hodgson, niece Janis Hodgson; nephew Daniel (Natalie) Cammell; niece Dawn (Kurt) Stark; great-niece Hilary (Jonatan) Perez; great-nephew Braydon (Courtenay) Stark; and many other cherished relatives.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn Irene Bowles and Frederick Henry Bowles; his sister Dorothy Cammell; and his brother-in-law Tom Hodgson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 62 Valleyview Dr SW, Medicine Hat, AB.
Fred will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his love, laughter, faith, and the legacy he leaves behind.
