Freda's obituary

Freda Christeen Taylor, 85, of Morgantown, WV passed away April 18, 2020, at Sundale Rehabilitation Center after a very courageous battle with the COVID-19 virus. Freda was born in Quick, WV on January 6th, 1935, the daughter of Frank Ledson Taylor and Georgia Irene Taylor.

She served bravely in the United States Marines from June 19, 1953 until June 18, 1956. She ranked Corporal and was given Honorable Discharge due to her loyal service. Freda earned the National Defense Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. She also served in the Korean War under the” Women Marine Company” at the Marine Corps Base in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. We are so very thankful for her service.

Music was one of Freda’s greatest passions in life. After meeting Elvis Presley, while he served in the army with her brother Jesse, Freda became Elvis Presley’s number one fan, reciting his songs verbatim while b-bopping to his tunes in her wheelchair. You could always bring a beautiful smile to her face with her favorite song, “Love me Tender”.

Freda was known for her kind heart to help others. She spread much joy with her adoring smile and how she loved-on her grandchildren. She loved dancing, singing, and was known for modeling in her younger years.

Freda’s most valued accomplishments were her daughter, Jeanne (Gigi) and her son, Larry, who passed away at 9 months of age. She was a caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to her family who loved her dearly. She is survived by her brother, William Taylor, daughter, Gigi Hefner and husband David Hefner of Morgantown; grandchildren, David Hefner of Morgantown, Shawn Hefner of Williamsburg, VA and Sarah Jones of Morgantown; great grandchildren, Olivia Hefner, David Michael Hefner Jr., Troy Hefner, Ethan Hefner, Hannah Hefner and Joelle Jones; and nieces and nephews; Craig Taylor, Sandy Bench, Jesse Taylor, Claudia Yeager, Beverly Segsworth, Ray Snyder, Kelly Snyder, Lisa Snyder, Angela Taylor-Jackson, and Wayne Taylor.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Georgia Taylor; infant son, Larry; sister, Janice Snyder; and brothers, Frank L. Taylor and Jesse A. Taylor

*Freda was laid to rest on 9-20-2020 at the National Cemetery in Grafton, WV, surrounded by family and loved ones. We imagine her singing and dancing in heaven, finally reunited with her son, baby Larry. Forever grateful to our loving Savior. 🙏🏻🫶🏼❤️
