Fred's obituary

Mr. Fred Raiche, age 83, of Wayzata, died on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 16, 1941, Fred was the son of the late Alfred Louis Raiche and Muriel Elisabeth (Gerber) Raiche. He was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Washburn High School, Class of 1959. In 1964 Fred married Monyne Elizabeth Jahnke, a Registered Nurse, and shortly after began working for Northwest Orient Airlines as a mechanic. In 1969 Fred became an airline pilot and flew for Northwest, mostly as Captain on the Boeing 747, until his retirement in 1996. Fred was the President of the Jaycees in Spring Park from 1968 to 1970 and ran for mayor in 1969. Fred was the father of five children with Monyne before the marriage ended in 1980, and they remained close for the rest of his life. In 1990 he married Mary Grace Collison, a flight attendant with Northwest, and the two remained together for 25 years. After his retirement, Fred relocated to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he remained until his last few years, when he returned to be near his family. For decades Fred was an avid collector of blue-ribbon motor vehicles, miniatures of all sorts, and all kinds of eclectic collectibles. Fred lived by the motto “the one with the most toys wins,” and he surely lived up to it. Fred is survived by his children Mark Raiche of Maple Plain, Bradley Raiche of Plymouth, Camille (Raiche) Walton of Glen Lake, Robert Raiche of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Christine Raiche of Maple Grove; his siblings Barbara (Raiche) Ashe of Gays Mills, Wisconsin, John “Jack” Raiche of Mound, Richard “Dick” Raiche of Wayzata, William “Bill” Raiche of Minnetonka, and Suzanne “Susie” (Raiche) McKitterick of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Folkestone Senior Living, 100 Promenade Ave, Wayzata, from 2:45 to 5:30 PM. Family and friends are respectfully invited.
