Fred's obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Fred Miller, a local community activist. He left us on April 25, 2025. Born in 1958, Fred devoted his 67 years to the pursuit of knowledge, shared compassion, and the advocacy of peace.
Among other things, Fred is remembered for his humorous political commentary, "The Incredible Feats of Stupidity", which he often performed at fairs and festivals.
Fred was a steadfast champion for peace and justice and a deeply committed to environmental activist. For years he was a board member of From Hiroshima to Hope. He also organized the gathering and stored their paper lanterns for their August 6 yearly event. He loved teaching people to sail, and volunteered at Center for Wooden Boats on their free public sail day and in many other capacities. He was an active member of Crown Hill Village, and over the years many other organizations focused on peace, the environment, and social equality. Eschewing car transportation and traveling most places by bicycle, even at great distance in inclement weather.
Fred started community gardens at Labatayah Youth Home, Crown Hill Center, Whitman Middle School, and on the land of other organizations, and regularly removed invasive plants, and guerilla gardened, on public land.
Fred's life was a testament to his beliefs. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his daughter Erin, his grandson Bill, his granddaughter Lauren, and many friends.
