Frank Albert Newton Jr., 76, of Muscatine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in Palm Beach County, Florida. In his last days, Frank was surrounded by all his children and together with the love of his life.

The casual funeral is at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Wittich-Riley-Freers, 1931 Houser Street in Muscatine. Immediately after, Frank will go to rest with loved ones at Greenwood Cemetery. Frank and the family invite everyone for a fun celebration of his life from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Headquarters, 2108 Grandview Avenue in Muscatine. For those who wish, the family will accept memorials in Frank’s honor. Donations will be made to Shiners Hospitals for Children, the selfless efforts of which touched Frank’s family and many others. Condolences may be offered at wittichfuneralhome.com.

Frank was born on Friday, October 18, 1946, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City to Frank Albert and Virginia Belle Newton, née Yeater. Frank was a 12th generation American, his 8th great-grandfather, Roger Newton, having immigrated to the Connecticut River Colony from England in the mid-1600s.

He married Linda Casebolt on January 9, 1966, in Muscatine. On May 27, 1972, Frank married Lois Leone Henderson in Nashua at The Little Brown Church in the Vale. Frank and Lois were married for 51 years. “Figg” was a proud member of the Muscatine High School Class of 1964, and always gathered with his classmates for reunions, stories, and remembrance of special people lost, including Muscatine war hero Doug King.

After graduation, Frank attended Muscatine Community College and worked in jobs around town: the Muskie Motel, Heinz, and as a soda jerk at Nietzel’s Pharmacy. He then set his efforts to home renovations, settling into the Windows & Siding business doing installation and sales for more than 30 years. Frank’s work had him on the road a lot throughout Iowa, Central and Northern Illinois, and Southern Wisconsin.

Frank was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 27, the Moose Lodge, and the Elks. He enjoyed Hawkeyes Football and Wrestling, the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and loved any activity or sport in which his children or grandchildren participated. Frank loved to travel and was an original foodie, never turning down even the most exotic offerings. He went on fishing trips to Canada with buddies and traveled to the far reaches of Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean with family and friends. Over the years, he raced demolition derby, rode motorcycles, went on canoe trips, attended family reunions, shot some rounds of golf, read paperback thrillers, watched a few Westerns, and dabbled in pool, cards, and dice. He loved a good happy hour and dinner with friends. Whatever he was doing, you would always find Frankie smiling.

Frank is survived by his wife, Lois, who lives in Palm Beach County, Florida, his daughters Jacqueline Josh (Bill) of Lake County, Florida, and Shawna Ormsby (Joe) of Wilton, his son-in-law Todd Poci of Muscatine, as well as his son Erik Newton (Jhun Dumagpi) of Palm Beach County, Florida; grandchildren in Muscatine (3), Wilton (4), Florida (1) and Washington state (3); and great-grandchildren (3).

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Beth Poci, a grandchild, Callie Poci, as well as many dear friends from the class of 1964, his “sister” Fran Johnston, née Thul, and his buddy, coworker, and brother-in-law Dave Norwood.

We love you very much, Dad! Welcome home and tell Grandma, Grandpa, Beth, and Callie that we miss them. Thank you for giving us your all to the end. We will miss you, Pops. Requiescat in pace.
