I met Frank in Carpinteria California in the mid 1980s. We were beginning to imagine we could keep the Carpinteria Bluffs as open space and Franks guidance and lessons were so helpful and with me still. Getting the facts and being accurate at hearings was one lesson I remember well. Not only have we been able to preserve the Carpinteria Bluffs but Rincon Bluffs Preserve as well. Frank is often in my thoughts when walking the preserves. Many thanks for your mentorship.
What a remarkable influence Frank had on The Nature Conservancy.  He played more roles than anyone ever has and most likely never will:  Chair of the California Chapter;  Chair of the Board of Governors; Western Regional Director; CEO.   He was an inspiration and mentor to a cohort of young TNC'ers who went on to play larger roles themselves in the organization and in conservation.   His impact was profound, and will live forever in the places he played an invaluable role in conserving, perhaps most notably in the complex acquisition of Santa Cruz Island, which catapulted TNC into landscape-scale conservation.    I was profoundly lucky to have known him and to count him as a friend.

I first met Frank Boren fairly soon after he started Sustainable Conservation.   And soon after that I joined SusCon's Board of Directors.  Frank  was certainly an innovative leader in the non-profit environmental world.   One of his best decisions was to have his daughter Ashley take over SusCon when he stepped down.  She has done a marvelous job, which must have made him super proud!!!
Frank served on the board of the Planning and Conservation League Foundation when I was Executive Director, and helped attract others to our cause.  He was an unfailing source of good advice and counsel, as well as financial support.  He also recruited me to the Board of the advisory committee to Delaware North when they were the lead contractor at Yosemite National Park, and we spent 11 years together helping to improve the park, and enjoying time at the Ahwahnee Hotel.  He also convinced me to join the Board of Sustainable Conservation, where I still serve as an advisor.
