Frank's obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Francis Platon Stratakos, Jr. He passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Ocean Springs, MS on February 7, 2023, at the age of 79.

Frank was born April 20, 1943, in New Orleans, LA to Francis Platon Stratakos, Sr and Eveylyn Mary (née Borne) Stratakos. He was the youngest of four children.

Frank never married and had no children.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Beverly Frances (Stratakos) Witt and Frances Dee (Stratakos) Newby, and his brother, Louis George Stratakos. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Evye Lynn Williams Beyer of MO, Rick (Sandra) Witt of AZ, Dawn (Pat) McVay of MO, Lori (Gene) Ward of MO, Cheryl (Johnny) Rankin of MT, Melinda Luke of SC, Keith (Kim) Stratakos of MS, and Evette (Chuck) Wright of LA.

Frank graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1962 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a schoolteacher in Ocean Springs for several years. In the early 80’s he took an overseas job teaching American dependent children at U.S. Army Base Camp Zama in Japan. He taught there until his retirement. After retirement he returned to Ocean Springs to live near his brother, Louis Stratakos, his sister-in-law, Monika, and their son, Keith.

Frank loved to travel and was a collector of fine art and antiques. He loved Hollywood and was enamored with movie stars from the golden age of film. He would often stay in historic old hotels that movie stars had stayed in. He also enjoyed researching his ancestry and was a great source of information on the family’s history.

No memorial service has been planned. Frank’s remains will be interred at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs, near his parents and siblings.
