Francis ("Pete")'s obituary

Francis Williamson “Pete” McCutchen, age 89, died peacefully at the Osborn in Rye, NY, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, after long suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

Born October 14, 1930, in Bishopville, SC, his family moved to Washington, DC during World War II where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and American University. Pete served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War era, a Lieutenant onboard the Essex class air craft carrier USS Tarawa, where he had a very sensible duty assignment for that era: antisubmarine patrols in the Caribbean Extroverted and charming, Pete was a lifelong salesman, spending most of his working life at Time Magazine, in the era when Time was culturally relevant, and ending his career as the National Advertising Sales Director and Vice President for Nation’s Business, published by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

He married Martha Jean Blake of St. Marys, WV, in 1957; his son was born in 1964. Pete was a member of the Larchmont Avenue Church in Larchmont, NY, where he looked forward to singing in the choir every Sunday and especially for Christmas services. Pete is survived by his son, Peter Blake McCutchen, and Pete’s wife Tammy McCutchen of Alexandria, VA, and his nieces and nephew Lena Rivers McCutchen, Leila Ethel McCutchen, and Robert Calvin McCutchen III, all of Bishopville, SC. He is predeceased by his parents Robert Calvin McCutchen and Lena Rivers Johnson McCutchen, wife Martha Jean Blake McCutchen, brother Robert Calvin McCutchen Jr., sister Sara Kennedy McCutchen, and niece Sara Roberta McCutchen.

A memorial service to celebrate Pete’s life will be held on February 8, 11:00 am, at the Larchmont Avenue Church, 60 Forest Park Avenue, Larchmont NY, with a reception immediately following. Internment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington DC. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
