Spike's obituary

Francis Charles "Spike" Smith III

Francis C. Smith III, known to family and friends as "Spike", passed away suddenly on September 22, 2018, at the age of 56. He was born on June 28, 1962 to Francis and Therese Smith.

A native of Groveland, Massachusetts, Spike graduated from Pentucket Regional High School, class of 1980. He worked for many years at Western Electric/AT&T/Agere Systems in North Andover and later graduated as a Master Barber from the Michael's School of Hair Design & Esthetics Paul Mitchell Partner School in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Spike spent many years in Manchester, N.H. before making the move to central Florida in 2011. His hard work and dedication paid off in 2018 when he opened his own barbershop in Eustis, Florida, aptly named "Spike's Barbershop." His loyal customers came from far and wide for his well-known flat-tops and high ‘n’ tights!

He is survived by his father, Francis C. Smith, Jr. of Eustis FL.; sisters, Jeanne-Marie Merrill and Elaine Therrien. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, an extended family and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Therese E. (Hamel ) Smith. He will be laid to rest next to her in Groveland, Massachusetts in a private family interment.

Spike was one of those people that made an everlasting impact on everyone he met. He was generous, kind, with a big heart and a fierce love for the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and New England Patriots. When he wasn’t cheering on his favorite New England team, he could usually be found barbequing on his Weber or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen. He also had a passion for the great outdoors where he liked to spend his time camping, fishing and kayaking. He had a huge love for animals and a deep respect for veterans, military and first responders.

Life is truly fragile, time is but a fragment of numbers in our journey, and now is the only time we own.

Thanks Spike for the time. Godspeed and rest in peace.
