Forrest James Saffo was born February 15, 1930, to Ellow Benton Saffo and Lillie Mae Robinson Stodghill Saffo in Atlanta, Georgia, at Grady Hospital. Being born at the tail end of the Great Depression, he would soon learn a most valuable lesson as a young black boy in the South… "times are hard, and you have to get a job to survive."
