Forrest's obituary

Forrest Caleb Fowler, 41, of Asheville, North Carolina, unexpectedly passed away there on July 29th. Caleb was the son of Forrest and Regina Ferguson Fowler of Travelers Rest. Born in Greenville in 1980, he was raised in Northern Greenville County for most of his early life. He attended Gateway Elementary School and Blue Ridge Middle School before graduating from Blue Ridge High School in 1999. Afterwards, he worked in the construction industry for many years, which took him to jobs all over the Eastern USA, until finally settling in Asheville about 5 years ago. Caleb was the kindest soul imaginable. His love for others far outweighed his own concerns for himself. He loved the mountains and he loved animals, especially his parents’ four Border Collies. Caleb was a proud, but unique, Democrat who loved to talk about politics and politicians. He was also a true crime aficionado, an interest he and his brother Joshua shared and discussed often. Besides his parents, Caleb leaves behind his brother, Joshua Fowler of Asheville, NC, his paternal grandmother Mary Ann Gillespie Fowler and his maternal grandmother and grandfather Jeannie Sayers Ferguson and Gary Ferguson. All three live in Travelers Rest. His paternal grandfather, Willard W. Fowler, died in 1996. He leaves behind two beloved aunts, Scottie Ferguson of Greenville and Julie Fowler-Simon of Santa Monica, CA. His third aunt, Elizabeth “Libby” Anne Fowler Plyler of Little Rock, AR, passed away in 2007. Among others left behind are his great aunt Kay Ferguson Robertson and great uncle Frank Ferguson. His great-uncle Ed Sayers of Greenville passed away suddenly just a few months ago. Caleb loved his cousins, including Francesca Fowler Fox of San Diego, CA, Sarah Elizabeth Plyler of Little Rock, AR, and Lisa Robertson Payne of Powdersville. The family is at the home of Gary and Jeannie Ferguson, 300 Clearview Rd., Travelers Rest, SC. In lieu of flowers and to reflect Caleb’s love of animals, the family asks for donations to be made to the Greenville County Humane Society or any other non-kill shelter.
