Forrest's obituary
Forrest “Gump” Murray Coss, age 70, of North Highlands, California, passed away following a tragic accident on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Born on December 9, 1955, in Sacramento, California, Forrest dedicated his life to helping others and was a beloved father, husband, mentor, and brother to many.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Forrest served aboard the U.S.S. Shasta during the 1970s. After his honorable discharge, he devoted himself to capturing life’s most meaningful moments through the lens of a camera. From weddings and school events for his children to motorcycle runs and protests for biker rights, Forrest had a gift for preserving memories and telling stories through photography.
Above all else, Forrest’s greatest passion was motorcycles. He loved working on them, riding them, sharing that passion with others and teaching what he knew to others. Whether in the garage or out on the open road, he found joy, freedom, and purpose surrounded by the machines and community he loved. He also had a deep love for live music and live bands, enjoying the energy of concerts, the power of a great performance, and the memories made whenever music brought people together.
Forrest will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, fierce protectiveness, deep knowledge, infectious laughter, and the countless stories he always seemed to have ready to share. He had a presence that made others feel safe, welcomed, and understood.
Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on whenever the skies break open in a storm. We will hear him in the thunder, see him in the lightning, and feel him in the rain.
Forrest is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, and his three children, Lexi, Jesse, and Lorraine.
His loss is a devastation that is felt by many across the motorcycle community and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will be hosted in July. More info on location and specific dates to come.
