Floyd's obituary

Floyd Kenneth Moe, 93, of Seatac, WA, passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2026. Floyd was born on July 30, 1932 to Herman and Lena Moe in Arlington, South Dakota. He was the second youngest of 11 siblings growing up on his family’s farm. After graduating from country school, Floyd worked as a hired man for various local farmers. In 1951, he joined the United States Army and served in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to South Dakota where he worked as a carpenter while completing his GED.

In early 1954, Floyd met Doris Kjellsen at a dance in Oldham. They were married on November 13, 1954. In 1956, the couple moved to Seattle, Washington where Floyd found work at Boeing as a mechanic. Floyd and Doris moved into a cozy little house where they could raise their growing family beginning with daughter Kim in 1958 and son Danny in 1961. When their youngest son, Jeff, was on the way a few years later in 1968, Floyd knew that their house was too small. He undertook a remodeling project, spending mornings on the addition to the house and evenings working swing shift at the Everett Boeing plant. This made for some very long days, though perhaps this was the perfect fit for a man who hated sitting around. Floyd also kept busy at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, where he spent many hours working on the property and grounds with his friends.

During his 37 years at Boeing, Floyd was known as a hard worker and an expert in fixing aircraft doors. He was invited to represent his group at the unveiling of the first Eastern Airlines 757 when it was delivered in Florida. Floyd also traveled overseas as a member of the AOG (Aircraft On Ground) crew to handle the most challenging maintenance cases. He fixed airplane doors in Singapore, London, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia. When Floyd retired in 1994, his boss wrote that Boeing would need to clone Floyd if they were going to keep their fleet in good repair.

After retirement, Floyd enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, and fishing. He and Doris also enjoyed traveling in their RV, visiting family in South Dakota and around the United States. Their door was always open to friends, family and anyone who needed a ride to the airport. The greatest joy of Floyd’s life was his family, including his eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Floyd was truly a Great Grandpa (and husband and dad) in every sense of the word. Whether you needed help with a school project, a hornet’s nest, or a clogged drain, he would appear at your door within minutes of your call. He and Doris also delighted in taking their family on trips, including an Alaskan cruise and a trip to Disneyland. Floyd’s family is grateful for the many pictures he took of the precious time they spent together.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lena; father and mother in-law Albeck and Marie Kjellsen; siblings Pearl (Ole) Anderson, Leon (Pearl) Moe, Myrtle (Ben) Sorenson, Al (Evy) Moe, Gib (Joan) Moe, Ray (Juanita) Moe, Olga (Harvey) Pickering, Glenn (Arlys) Moe, infant brother Floyd Julius Moe, Betty (Gordy) Eriksrud, and Neil Moe; sisters-in-law Helen Marken, Florence (Bud) Larson, and Judy Kjellsen; and brothers-in-law Howard (Hazel) Kjellsen, Harvey (Barbara) Kjellsen, Donnie Kjellsen, Lloyd Kjellsen, and Dennis Tolzin.

Floyd is survived by his wife Doris; daughter Kim (John) Gibbon, sons Danny Moe and Jeffrey Moe; grandchildren Lindsay Gibbon, Tony Gibbon, Krista (Spencer) Johnson, Steven (Miranda) Gibbon, Brian Gibbon (Colleen Smalley), Jessica Moe, Ashley Moe (Rollin Frank), and Derik Moe; great-grandchildren Carter Tribbett, Chord and Arie Johnson, and Grace Gibbon; sisters-in-law Judy Moe, Doris Kjellsen, Ellen Dinger, Pat Kjellsen, and Rose Tolzin; brothers-in-law George (Joan) Kjellsen, Leon Kjellsen, and Ralph (Becky) Kjellsen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
