Florence's obituary
In realizing a life so well lived, Florence A. Cecce traveled to her next adventure on December 28, 2024, at the age of 87. Flo, as all her family and friends affectionately called her, was born in Corning, New York, on October 19, 1937, to Henry and Margaret Rose Valentino Cecce.
Flo began her career, which spanned 38 years, just after graduating from Corning Free Academy in 1955. She was a dedicated Data Processor in the Science Products Division of Corning Glass Works. She worked from the Big Flats location until being relocated to the Horseheads Holding Point through retirement in 1993.
Flo was known for her love of family, friends and strangers alike. She carried a spirit that was uniquely hers. She always had a smile and greeting of “hey there” for everyone she met. Her laugh was infectious, and it was on display often.
In retirement, Flo traveled the globe to South Korea, Germany and everywhere in between to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved new experiences and journaled about every country and each adventure. Her favorite place was any city in Italy, but the ancient, preserved city of Pompeii fascinated her the most.
She was playful, funny, kind and loved with her whole heart. Gram was always game to ride the roller coast with her grands. Her screams of pure joy from atop the ‘coaster could be heard across every amusement park. She was an avid Yankees and Jets fan, a deep love of sports she shared with Tracey.
Flo was a ‘regular’ at Big Paul’s for “Fish Fry” every Friday night with Barbara & Beth Briggs, brother Hank and any friend that decided to join them. She played Euchre twice a week and met the ladies for a bite to eat and sisterhood on weekends. She loved ice cream and being a passenger on a motorcycle ride to anywhere, preferably an ice cream shoppe.
Flo was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, grandparent, great-gram and Mom.
Florence is pre-deceased by her parents, Margaret and Henry, her brothers Hank and Roger Cecce. She is survived by her daughter, Tracey (Howell) Briggs, sisters: Margaret (Cookie) McDougal and Josephine Blodgett; brother: Joe Cecce; grandsons: Ben and Zack Briggs; granddaughter: Jessica (Briggs) Herron; great-grandchildren, Catherine, Beric and Everett along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Flo’s honor by mailing a check to the High Desert Therapy Dogs, c/o Treasurer Stefanie Bourgeois, PO Box 9, Tome, NM 87060-0009. Please be sure to notate “Flo Cecce” in the "for" line of your check and thank you.
A celebration of Florence’s life will be held at The Corning Hilton Garden Inn, 23 Riverside Drive on Sunday, October 19, 2025, 1 to 4 pm, in Corning New York.
