Fernand's obituary

Fernand Denis Clavet, 88, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 in Bangor, Maine. He was born in Saint-Jacques, New Brunswick, Canada on August 6, 1936 to Denis and Alma (Ploude) Clavet. He and his wife of 61 years, Lorette (Lavoie) Clavet, resided in Old Town, Maine, after a recent move from Indian Shores (Pinellas County), Florida.

Fern was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. As a young man, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and was stationed in Germany as a non-commissioned officer. Following his army service, he graduated from a forestry training program and then moved from Canada to Hartford, Connecticut, where he met and married Lorette. Together, they raised a family in Newington, Connecticut. Fern became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1968. Starting out as a machinist in Hartford at various companies, he was last employed at Pratt & Whitney/United Technologies Corporation in East Hartford for 16 years and retired in 1993. For nearly 30 years, he resided in Florida with Lorette.

Fern was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and their spouses -- Gail (Clavet) and Steven Jennings of Glen Allen, Virginia, Lisa (Clavet) and Dwayne Thomas of Old Town, Maine, and Lynn (Clavet) and Arthur ("Artie") Pelletier of Bristol, Connecticut; five grandchildren (Henry Jennings, Wyatt Thomas, Cole Thomas, Riely Thomas, and Amy Pelletier); a sister, Ruth (Clavet) Morrison of Edmundston, New Brunswick, and a brother, Doris Clavet of Fort Kent, Maine.

He is reunited in Heaven with his parents. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Yvette Orilla Clavet, Marie Yvett Clavet, Gilbert Clavette, Albert Clavette, Simone Clavet, Marie Clavet, Rachelle (Clavet) Pinette, and, most recently, Gilles Clavet.

He was known for being a carpenter and a handyman, an avid baseball and ice hockey fan, and a helpful neighbor and friend. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, playing Saturday night poker games with his buddies and in-laws, and hosting summer pool parties at his home. During retirement, Fern’s interests included traveling in the U.S., walking the beach near his Florida home, playing cards with his wife, and visiting with family and friends every summer in New England and Canada. Fern had a fun-loving side and loved to play pranks on his family and friends.

His last wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread in a location in Maine that was special to him and his wife. The family will hold a celebration of life in 2025 at a date to be determined.
