EXLENE "CHERIE"'s obituary
Exlean “Cherie” Hunt-Austin was born on September 27, 1979, in Detroit, Michigan, to Clemeteen Hunt and Micheal Parks.
At the age of six, she and her mother relocated to Waukegan, Illinois. She later attended school in Zion, Illinois, where she graduated and began shaping a life rooted in service, faith, and love.
Determined to make a difference in the lives of others, Exlean enrolled in the TCH program at the College of Lake County, where she earned her CNA license. Her heart for caregiving led her to a long and dedicated career at Highland Park Hospital, where she served faithfully for 26 years.
Exlean gave her life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor B.J. Gaston at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Zion, Illinois. She was active in both the youth and adult choirs and carried her faith with her throughout her life.
On July 7, 2023, Exlean was joined in holy matrimony to
Allen Austin. Together they shared the blessing of a son, Azariah. Her role as a mother brought her great pride and joy.
On January 11, 2026, Exlean peacefully transitioned to her eternal home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering strength. Cherishing her memory are her beloved son Azariah Micheal Austin of Zion, IL; her loving mother Clemeteen Hunt of Zion, IL; her father Micheal Parks of Detroit, MI; sister Leatha Hunt of Zion, IL; brother Aljamer Page of Detroit, MI; uncle Alfred Ellis of Zion, IL; uncle and aunt James and Elaine Poole of Zion, IL; and a host of other cherished relatives and dear friends.
She is now reunited in glory with her devoted husband Allen Austin, her maternal grandparents Exlean and Birdsee Gosa, paternal grandparents Julia and Williard Parks, aunts Naomi Mayfield, Kitty Ware, and Joanne Thompson; and her godson Damarquis D. Henry.
Exlean’s life was a testimony of faith, family, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
