Evelyn's obituary

On September 17, 1946, Evelyn entered the world as the second of three children born to Edward Person, and Pauline Baker Person in Mexia, Texas. She attended J. A. Brooks Elementary, and Booker T. Washington High School in Teague, Texas where she excelled in all her academics. She was baptized, and gave her life to Christ at a very young age.

Upon graduating from High School Evelyn moved to Fort Worth, Texas.

It was then Evelyn met and married Willie Washington. To this union, there are four children, Lorenzo, Melvinia, James, and Christie. She united with Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ, Supt. Richards where she was a faithful worker in the church for 12 years. It was in 2007 that she united with House of Faith Set Free Ministry Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Michael T. Newman. Sis. Evelyn was a faithful and dedicated worker serving on the usher board, hospitality, choir, church clerk, and a Sunday school Bible scholar. She remained faithful for 17 years until her health started failing her. But God made a way for her to be in service with her church family every Tuesday evening, and Sunday morning worship by way of telephone conference calls.

Sis. Evelyn was a spirit-filled woman of God. She loved serving the Lord, her church, and her community. She had such a gentle spirit, humble, kind-hearted, soft-spoken, and a genuine love for all she came in contact with. She had a remarkable ability to find humor in the simplest of things, turning mundane moments into cherished memories. In the tapestry of our lives, her laughter was a vibrant thread, weaving moments of happiness and warmth into the fabric of our existence. The echoes of her laughter will forever resonate in our hearts, a reminder of the joy she brought to all who knew her.

Sis Evelyn worked various jobs before being employed at Childcare Associates. She worked diligently for many years until her retirement. She had a very special love for working with children of all ages.

Sis. Evelyn answered the call of the Lord early Tuesday morning, the 23rd day of April

2024. She has earned her wings and she now has a new home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Pauline Person. Her two brothers, Melvin and James Person, her husband Willie Washington, and her special aunt, Willie Mae Thomas.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her children, Lorenzo(Thelma), Melvinia, James(Terra), and Christie. Grandchildren, James Jr., T'Kia, and Tornisha and a host of other relatives and friends.
