I’m so sad to hear about this. Evie was a role model in college - such a calm and energizing spirit. Really feel for your family and wish you some eventual peace and happiness’

Week one of study abroad - "we could get used to this"
Evelyn was my roommate during our year of study abroad in Egypt. We first shared a bedroom in the dorms, and then a teetering, dusty apartment we dubbed "Hostel Sketch." We ventured into the Sahara together on an overnight trip, went to our friends wedding in a rural village outside of Alexandria, and learned how to make American chocolate chip cookies with the ingredients we could find. I remember sitting with her at the kitchen table doing Arabic flashcards, or having her teach us all how to make her family's dumpling recipe. She was always down for an adventure, completely unafraid to go places where we knew we'd likely be the only Americans -- or in her case, possibly being the only ethnically Asian woman many people had ever seen in person. But she was never prickly. Being around Evelyn was like being near a softly flowing stream. She was fearless, but peaceful. I didn't know someone could be both, so strongly. I was loud and guileless and probably drove her crazy lol. But she was still kind to me. Always and ever. What an example and a legacy she leaves. I will forever be inspired by her personality, her dry humor, her softness, her bravery, and her intelligence. She made my life better, in the year I saw her almost daily. She was a force for good in the world, and I know her impact will radiate for generations.

We love you Evelyn! We’ll always remember you and the joy you brought to everyone .

To Evie's family, and her friends:

The world has lost a bright light this week, but Evie's mark is everlasting on us all. She taught us to be kind and sincere, especially when it was difficult. She created spaces for us to be vulnerable and grow and offered us a safe space to build a real community and real change. Those moments and projects with her were some of my favorite memories from my time at Split. I loved how Evie always made time for me, and how she would truly listen, not to just what I had said, but she listened to everything I didn't say. Sometimes our conversations were quiet, and that was what we both needed - she had a way of knowing. Evie was never afraid - she challenged the norm, pushed us to be better, and always stood up for what was right, even if it meant more work. Evie was small, but mighty, with the strength of goodness to power her. Her smile could soften any of us. Wishing you peace and comfort as you navigate this challenging time. My heart goes out to you.

Evie, I feel so blessed to have known you and promise to keep fighting for a more compassionate and kinder world. Remember that "A Place to Feel Feelings" coloring book you sent me a while back? I'll be coloring in it this week - thank you for always knowing and for looking out for me. All my love <3

EVIE! I just found out about your passing! Im sorry, angry, shook by this. I have many memories of us working together during our time in Split/DEI. Our conversations were always about equality, history, and how to make a better world for our children.I will cherish every moment in my heart and hope you still used the green stones and the quartz bowl I sent from Argentina.

Hugs to all family members and my deepest condolences for your loss.

Love, Luciana.
