Evelyn's obituary
Evelyn Raye (Adkins) McCaslin, of Perkins, OK, loving and devoted wife, mother of two, and grandmother to one, walked into the arms of her Savior on March 3, 2024, at the age of 71. She passed away peacefully after bravely battling cancer for the fifth time, surrounded by her family. Born to Earl and Irene Adkins on March 19, 1952 in Pawnee, OK, Evelyn’s life was a tapestry of faith, dedication, love, and service.
Evelyn graduated from Perkins High School in 1970. She moved to Denver, CO in 1973 where she met Rob McCaslin, her husband. They married at Lost Creek UMC, Perkins, OK, in 1974. Together they raised their daughter, Tammy McCaslin of Perkins and son, Scott McCaslin of Spokane, WA.
While living in Denver she worked at Central Bank and Trust as the Head of the Microfiche department. After moving to Oklahoma in 1980 she and her husband operated a water well service together. Once the children arrived, she was a full-time wife and mother until both her children were in school. She served many years as the church secretary at Stillwater First Church of the Nazarene. The final 17 years of her career was at Oklahoma State University as the Undergraduate Academic Secretary for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, from where she retired.
Evelyn dedicated her life to her family and her church. She was an amazing woman of faith and lived her life to win souls for Jesus Christ. She and Rob, and then later with their children, were faithful members of the church. Their final church family is at Lost Creek UMC in Perkins where their many years of dedicated attendance, work, and financial support were an inspiration to many. Evelyn was a quiet and steadfast example that let her actions speak louder than her words. She was a prayer warrior and student of the Bible. She committed much of her life to intercessory prayer for others and learning God’s word. Evelyn loved her family. She adored her husband, children, and grandson. They were her most treasured gifts. She enjoyed spending time with her close-knit extended family. You would often find her in the company of her parents, many siblings, and a plethora of nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a very talented musician. She loved to sing and play the guitar. She was the tenor in the family singing group and sang in the tenor section in the church choir. During her teens, Evelyn learned to crochet and knit from her mother. Over the rest of her life, she honed her skills and used them to craft masterpieces to give to others. She poured her love into each project as she knitted or crocheted hot pad/dishcloth sets for newlyweds, hoodies for new babies, prayer shawls for anyone facing health issues, and afghan blankets for family and friends.
Evelyn’s spirit is carried forward by her beloved family: husband, Rob; her children, Tammy , Scott and his wife Amanda; her grandson, Robert; her siblings, Elisabeth (Beth) Howey, Ernest (Ernie) Adkins, Elaine Lynch, Emily (Joyce) Winston, and Ellen Long; her brothers and sisters in law, Richard Howey, Patty Adkins, Mike Lynch, Tony Long, Mark and Liann McCaslin, Margo and Clark Rabe; nieces and nephews, David and Kristi Howey, Kathy and David Ford, Erin and Kelly Griffin, Lisa and Mike Bagg, Travis and Sarah Adkins, Sara and Bo Baggett, Michael and Amber McCaslin, Amy and John Jeffries, Timothy and Carrie Rabe, Tiffany Rabe, and Tyler Rabe; 19 great nieces and nephews, and 3 great great nieces and nephews; and a wonderful number of cousins.
