Evangeline's obituary
Evangeline Dawn Norton, affectionately known as “Vange” passed away on her 93rd birthday, May 20th, 2024.
Her journey began in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 20th 1931. She was one of nine children born to John and Erna Kamuchey. She came of age during the Great Depression where she learned the value of hard work and sacrifice.
After high school, in pursuit of her dreams, she embarked on a solo journey to California by train. With grit and determination, she put herself through Fresno State College where she was a Math Major. She then attended San Francisco State College. She obtained degrees in Physical Education and Kinesiology. She would soon find employment at the May T. Morrison Center for rehabilitation in San Francisco. She met our Father, Jimmie Leroy Norton, who was a patient at the center. The rest is history.
On June 8, 1957 Evangeline and Jimmy were married marking the beginning of a marriage that would span 63 years until our Father’s passing in July 2020. Together they raised six children and welcomed over 20 grandchildren which included great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Our home was always overflowing with cousins and friends and Mom never turned anyone away.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, seven of her siblings, two children, one grandchild and one great grandchild.
Survived by her loving children Janet (Mike) Suttles, Daniel Norton, Paul Norton, Peter (Laurrie) Norton and grandchlldren Coltin (Amanda) Norton, Jody (Jeremy) Martin, Madison (Zack) and Cooper Burkhart, Mason and Hannah MacLeod, Marlee Martin, Melissa (Jeff) Jordyn and Jayden Freeman, Michaelle (Wayne) Gabrielle and Wyatt Pak, Dean Suttles, Madeleine Norton, Andrew Norton, Ryan Norton, Elise Norton, Nicholas Norton, and Alexandra Norton.
Her legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion will forever remain etched in our hearts.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 30th at the Miller Funeral home in Folsom, California located at 507 Scott Street beginning at 10am.
On Friday May 31 at 1:oopm , she will be laid to rest next to our father at Skylawn Memorial Park Hwy 92 Skyline Blvd in San Mateo.
