Evan's obituary

My  beloved Evan was born in 1975 on the island of Utila He was so beautiful and so loved that I kissed his face all day every day and wondered how I could have been given such a beautiful child I loved him, played with him, read to him, sang to him as he slept He was my soul and my life

As he grew up and started school, he was found by his teachers to be super talented and intelligent Gifted in so many things He could paint, write stories by age 8, and play violin He won prize after prize for posters, essays, music and art. But of all the things Evan was and Evan did, I remember and value him most as a wonderful big brother to Hayden and Carr From the day each of them was born, He took care of them, loved them , played with them, was proud of them and protected them He partnered with them on projects and taught them things he thought were important His love for them was clear and powerful That never changed

As he got older, Evan went through some wild years, He did great in school, and played football but also got into trouble a lot. Some of it big trouble At one point I thought I would lose him forever I cried and prayed so many nights wondering if the smart talented little boy I loved wouid ever reach 20 But he did. And He never let the mistakes he had made change him for the worse He used those mistakes to become better and to shape his life and character He used them to help his friends and brothers so they wouid not make the same mistakes

Through the years, Evan developed a unique style that combined the three cultures in which he was raised, an island flair for dancing, a musical rappers way of speaking, and a way of dressing that was all his own He had a creative dream of making music and of making money, worked every day in his recording studio ( Savage Beats) and finally got his own barbershop Citystylez where it all came together it was a destination barbershop- a place where parents, kids, fathers and sons could play video games, watch sports , get designs in their haircuts, get fancy beard shapes, listen to music and chill

But if I think of my son Evan, and I will every day of my life, I will think of him always as the most loving , caring and thoughtful son to me and Nat,  brother to Hayden and Carr, as well as Cathy, Ofelia and Stephanie, uncle to Nalia, Nylah, Jasmin, Daisy and his nephews in Honduras, and loving father to Evan Jr. Reign, Alicha, Xavier, Justin , Alexa and Evanise   He never went far from us. He was happiest when he was taking trips to Hershey Park with all the kids, or going to Mets games with his dad, cooking food for the family on holidays, or giving presents and flowers for every occasion

He was a unique and wonderful friend to his friends, a creative funny son and cousin, a fun loving uncle and brother, a protector, comforter, and counselor to people he could help and a born island man   He had a way…

I will never be able to know or explain how his life ended or why But he will live on in the hearts and faces and creative minds of his brothers and his seven children

For me? He’s still here He’s just down the street or playing at the park He’ll be home soon.
